Do not be afraid if you draw this card. The Death card is all about death and rebirth, transformation and change. It can be an end to the old you and the beginning of the new. While it is true that this card can mean bad things, as well, like failure, sudden illness, abrupt and unexpected change, loss of income or financial security, it also can mean that there is a blessing coming to you in disguise.

I’ve been so focused lately on the things I don’t have that I forgot to be grateful for the things I do have. No matter how hard things are, there will always be things to be grateful for. For example, if you’re reading this, you’re not blind, you are literate, you have a computer or access to one, you have the internet or access to it. The same four things apply to me and I would add that since you’re reading this that means that I have friends and loved ones who care for me and for whom I care and people who like what I write enough to read it. I have power, so my computer and internet are functioning. I have a roof over my head and heat. I have a car that gets me from point A to point B. There is food in my fridge and cupboards, even if it isn’t always what I want to eat. I have a fridge and a stove. I can leave my house without fear of being attacked. And even though my health may not be as great as I’d like it to be, I’m not in the hospital.

There are endless blessings to be grateful for and instead of letting myself get mired down in the bills that still need to be paid or the truncated grocery list, I need to remind myself every day of the many, many blessings that are easily taken for granted, but that are so vital and important to remember.

If you’re like me and you find yourself focusing on the negative things going on in your life, try this ritual of thanks. You’ll find that after reminding yourself of the blessings you have, the negativity of worrying over bills or groceries or your car will be lessened and the world won’t seem so bleak.

So, remember to count your blessings and not your troubles!
