This time of year, myself and some of my family and friends have a hard time not giving in to depression. I’ll be the first to admit, I have trouble with depression anyway. Even though this time of year is my absolute favorite, the amount of sunlight we get decreases daily and my list of outdoor activities dwindles to nothing. These things contribute to making it that much harder to fight off the darkness of depression.
I came across this spell a few years ago somewhere (so I’m not taking credit for it) and I was looking at it the other day thinking to myself, ‘I know some people who could use this right now.’ It’s very simple and it’s a nice way of letting someone know you’re thinking of them and ‘cheering’ them on. 🙂
Take a candle in pretty much any color you want. If you’re making this for another person, maybe use their favorite color. Same thing goes for scent. Some suggestions for overall cheerfulness would be pink, light orange, light yellow, light green, light blue, or light lavender. I guess light colors in general. They keep things ‘light’.
Suggestions for scents are lavender, lilac, hyacinth, vanilla, lemon balm, or bergamot. Again, if this is for another person and you know their favorite scent, go with that!
If you can’t find (or don’t want to use) a commercially made candle in the right scent and color combination, you can buy an unscented candle in the correct color and a bottle of oil in the right scent. All you have to do then is use your fingers and rub a small amount of the oil along the candle. Make sure to wash your hands after this, though, as some fragrance and essential oils can be irritating to the skin. When you light the candle, the wax will warm up and release the scent. Do this every time you light the candle or with whatever frequency you find gives off just the right concentration of scent.
You can even decorate the candle. Bedazzle the hell out of it! Warm the side of it up slightly with a hair dryer and roll it in glitter! Draw designs on it. Remember, the point of this is to be cheerful. Just, please, don’t use toxic junk or flammable stuff on it. It’s not very cheerful if the candle explodes and sets the house on fire. Also, as with anything on fire, don’t leave it unattended. Ok, practical stuff done. 😉
Once you have everything you need, you can do this a couple of different ways. If it’s for you, go ahead and skip straight to the incantation. If this is a candle for someone else you can 1) give it to them and do the incantation with them, 2) give it to them with a little card that has the incantation on it and let them do it if they wish, 3) do the incantation at home and then give it to them.
Regardless of when you do the incantation, make sure to visualize cheerfulness and happiness surrounding you or your friend in cheerful, gentle yellow light.
The incantation can go something like this:
May the light of this candle shine to you like a ray of hope,
May its warmth bring you cheer,
May its fragrance fill you with joy,
May you know that though there is darkness, the light always returns,
Blessed be.
Or something along those lines. Write your own incantation, say whatever you wish to say to charge this candle and then know, every time you light it, the power of your intention radiates from it.
Blessed be, my friends! 🙂
